Sephora knows personal care and beauty as perhaps the biggest player in the space and now Sephora has added CBD to its make up. As yahoo reports, Sephora now has a small section of creams and oils that boast the non-psychoactive ingredient derived from the cannabis plant.
“There is consumer demand for more natural products these days, which I think is fueling this trend,” said Board-certified dermatologist Rachel Nazarian, of the Schweiger Dermatology Group in New York City. “I’ve actually used CBD oil for things like wound healing, burns, and itching…the science does back it.”
Last October, Lord Jones, the luxury CBD health and beauty brand heralded by Hollywood’s top starlets like Jennifer Aniston, Michelle Williams, and Kristen Bell, became the first-ever CBD-infused brand to be carried at Sephora when it started carrying the brand’s popular High CBD Formula Body Lotion. Sephora took note of the celebrity backed CBD company’s wild popularity as it soon added several more CBD products including Lord Jones Royal Oil.
As Allure reports, topical CBD can be used for anti-inflammatory and analgesic purposes, as and when ingested it enters the bloodstream directly, increasing the level of anandamide (the natural chemical that creates a feeling of “runner’s high”) in the body. The health and beauty industry has found a transformative commodity in CBD and with the FDA weighing their options for permitting CBD as an additive in food and beverage products, the space is poised for explosive growth.
“We tested hundreds of CBD products,” Cindy Deily, Sephora VP of Skincare told Marie Claire.
Nazarian says there is evidence that suggests CBD oil can be beneficial for those with acne or hyperpigmentation and scarring attributed to breakouts
“Given the fact that CBD is anti-inflammatory and acne is an inflammatory condition for many people, along with the fact that it down regulates the production of oil,” said Nazarian. “I actually think somebody that suffers from acne would benefit from CBD oil. It’s calming and anti-inflammatory and hydrating on some level given its oil base.”
